Copeland

2014

Indie / Contemplative / Introspective / Lush

Copeland is a band that has been in the background of most of my adult life. I found their first album right after moving to New York and it became a solace for me as I dealt with life in the big city and feeling alone surrounded by millions. Their albums are filled contemplative and introspective moments – chord progressions dig up memories, melodies make me reminisce. The band had a great run and went on a years long hiatus after the release of You Are My Sunshine. For me, there would be giant swaths of time between listens of Copeland’s records but when I did they would dominate my listening for weeks. Recently, I realized I hadn’t listened to them in probably years (changes, I guess?) and I fired up their comeback album, Ixora and it’s been on constant rotation since.

Ixora makes me think. It makes me settle in certain emotions, some of which aren’t necessarily positive but are...needed? I’m guessing we all have bands and albums that churn up the more challenging thoughts and moods of our lives. If you give it a listen, I hope you enjoy it.
